Self Learning
This post is part of the Learning 2.0 exercise. Of the 7 1/2 steps the hardest is begin with the end in mind. It reminds me of school, when the teacher wanted an outline before you wrote the paper. I always did the outline last, because I didn't know what the paper was going to look like until it was done. The easiest is accept responsibility for your own learning. I do not need to be pushed to learn; learning is fun! This explains a lot of why I am doing what I'm doing.

How nice to read that someone else found difficulty in following the line of logic required to accomplish a particular goal in grade school.
My personal story is when I was learning how to check my addition and subtraction answers. My father had early on showed me an alternate way to check my figures by compiling the information in my head, not on a piece of paper. However, my first grader teacher insisted I check using her method, so in order to complete the assignment satisfactorily, I checked first my Dad’s way and then basically just wrote down the instructor’s formula with little insight into why the instructor thought her way was best.
To this day, I am very good at adding figures in my head, thanks to my Dad.
I always had a terrible time in school with following the "rules". Math education seemed especially prone to this. There seemed to be more concern with following a process than with actual learning.
